William Basinski + Richard Chartier “Aurora Liminalis”

I finally checked out William Basinski’s “Disintegration Loops” two summers ago. I bought the box set and it became my reading soundtrack. I recently picked up Richard Chartier’s PINKCOURTESYPHONE’s “Indelicate Slices” and have been enjoying the hell out of it. So I was psyched to find this collaboration from 2013. It’s a 44 minute ambient piece that starts off with distant low end rumbling that’s hints at melody accented with high pitch textures. It drifts along into pure drone territory before bringing the low end in with some nice hissing and crackling. Truth be told, I tend to prefer my ambient music without any really loud or abrasive parts and this fits the bill perfectly. I know, I know, I’m just getting old. This is my old dude music.

Kata Sarka “Crucible of Misanthropy”

Kata Sarka “Crucible of Misanthropy”

I’m a huge fan of anti-label Auris Apothecary. Everything they put out is worth a look and a listen. This 4 song “crust metal” release from the Indianapolis, IN band gets down to business quickly and hits all the right pressure points. Fast as hell tunes with ripping vocals; this sounds like His Hero Is Gone on meth. Released in 2012; pick at your purulent metal wound with these tunes.
